1So all the work Solomon did for the LORD's house was finished. Then Solomon brought in the things his father David had set apart for God. He brought the silver, the gold, and all the furnishings. He put them in the treasure rooms of God's house. 2Then Solomon called the elders of Israel together in Jerusalem. He called all the heads of the tribes and the family leaders of the Israelites. They came to bring up the ark of the covenant of the LORD from Zion, the City of David. 3So all the men of Israel came together to the king at the feast in the seventh month. 4When all the elders of Israel had come, the Levites picked up the ark. 5They brought up the ark and the Tent of Meeting with all its holy furnishings. The priests, who were Levites, carried them up. 6King Solomon and the whole community of Israel gathered with him in front of the ark. They sacrificed so many sheep and oxen that no one could count them or keep a record. 7Then the priests brought the ark of the covenant of the LORD to its place. They put it in the inner room of the temple, the Most Holy Place. It sat under the wings of the cherubim. 8The cherubim spread their wings over the place where the ark was. They covered the ark and its poles. 9The poles of the ark were so long that their ends could be seen from in front of the inner room. But they could not be seen from outside the Holy Place. They are still there to this day. 10There was nothing in the ark except the two tablets. Moses had put them there at Horeb. That was where the LORD made a covenant with the Israelites after they came out of Egypt. 11All the priests who were there had made themselves holy, no matter what group they served in. When the priests came out of the Holy Place, 12all the Levite singers stood on the east side of the altar. These were Asaph, Heman, Jeduthun, and their sons and relatives. They wore fine linen and played cymbals, harps, and lyres. With them were 120 priests blowing trumpets. 13The trumpeters and singers joined together. With one voice they praised and thanked the LORD. They raised their voices with trumpets, cymbals, and other instruments to praise the LORD. They sang, "For he is good; his faithful love lasts forever." Then the temple, the house of the LORD, was filled with a cloud. 14The priests could not stand there to serve because of the cloud. For the glory of the LORD filled the house of God.
