1Then Solomon began to build the LORD's house in Jerusalem on Mount Moriah. That was where the LORD had appeared to his father David. It was the place David had made ready on the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite. 2Solomon began building on the second day of the second month. It was the fourth year of his rule. 3The base Solomon laid for God's house was 90 feet long and 30 feet wide. This used the old length of the cubit.a 4The porch in front ran across the width of the temple. It was 30 feet long and 30 feet high. He covered the inside with pure gold.b 5He lined the main hall with cypress wood. He covered it with fine gold. Then he decorated it with palm trees and chains. 6He decorated the temple with precious stones to make it beautiful. Its gold came from Parvaim. 7He covered the temple's beams, door sills, walls, and doors with gold. He carved cherubim on the walls. 8Then he made the Most Holy Place. Its length matched the width of the temple. It was 30 feet long and 30 feet wide. He covered the inside with six hundred talents of fine gold.c 9The gold nails weighed fifty shekels. He also covered the upstairs rooms with gold.d 10In the Most Holy Place he made two carved cherubim. He covered them with gold. 11The wings of the cherubim spread 30 feet wide in all. One wing of the first cherub was 7 1/2 feet long. It touched the temple wall. Its other wing was also 7 1/2 feet long. It touched a wing of the other cherub.e 12One wing of the second cherub was also 7 1/2 feet long. It touched the temple wall. Its other wing was 7 1/2 feet long too. It touched a wing of the first cherub. 13So the wings of these cherubim spread 30 feet in all. The cherubim stood on their feet. They faced the main hall. 14He made the curtain of blue, purple, and red yarn and fine linen. He had cherubim woven into it. 15In front of the temple he made two pillars. Together they were about 52 feet high. Each had a top piece that was 7 1/2 feet tall.f 16He made chains woven together and put them on top of the pillars. He made a hundred pomegranates and attached them to the chains. 17Then he set up the pillars in front of the temple. One stood on the south side and one on the north. He named the south pillar Jachin. He named the north pillar Boaz.
