1Now about food that has been sacrificed to idols. We know that we all have knowledge. But knowledge makes people proud. Love builds people up. 2The person who thinks he knows something does not yet know as he should. 3But the person who loves God is known by God. 4So what about eating food sacrificed to idols? We know that an idol is nothing at all in the world. And we know there is no God but one. 5There may be so-called gods, in heaven or on earth. In fact, there are many so-called gods and lords. 6But for us there is only one God, the Father. All things came from him, and we live for him. And there is only one Lord, Jesus Christ. All things came through him, and we live through him. 7But not everyone knows this. Some people are still so used to idols that they think of this food as sacrificed to an idol when they eat it. Their conscience is weak, so it is made dirty. 8But food does not bring us closer to God. We are no worse if we don't eat. We are no better if we do. 9But be careful. Don't let your freedom make the weak trip and fall. 10Suppose someone with a weak conscience sees you eating in an idol's temple. You know better. But won't he be pushed to eat food sacrificed to idols too? 11So this weak brother is ruined by your knowledge. Christ died for him. 12When you sin against your brothers this way and hurt their weak conscience, you sin against Christ. 13So if what I eat makes my brother fall, I will never eat meat again. I don't want to make him fall.
