1People are actually saying there is sexual sin among you. It is a kind that even pagans would not allow. A man is living with his father's wife. 2And you are proud! Shouldn't you be filled with sorrow instead? Shouldn't you have put the man who did this out of your group? 3I am not with you in body, but I am with you in spirit. I have already judged the man who did this, just as if I were there. 4So when you meet together in the name of our Lord Jesus, I will be with you in spirit. The power of the Lord Jesus will be there too. 5Then hand this man over to Satan so that his sinful nature may be destroyed. That way his spirit may be saved on the Day of the Lord.a 6Your bragging is not good. Don't you know that a little yeast spreads through the whole batch of dough? 7Get rid of the old yeast. Then you will be a new batch of dough without yeast, as you really are. For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed. 8So let us keep the feast. Let's not do it with the old bread made with the yeast of hate and evil. Let's do it with the bread without yeast, which is honesty and truth. 9In my letter I wrote to you not to spend time with people who live in sexual sin. 10I did not mean the people of this world who live in sexual sin. I did not mean the greedy, the cheaters, or those who worship idols. To stay away from them, you would have to leave this world. 11But now I am writing to you not to spend time with anyone who says he is a brother but lives in sin. Stay away from him if he is sexually immoral or greedy. Stay away if he worships idols or curses people. Stay away if he is a drunk or a cheater. Don't even eat with such a person. 12Is it my job to judge people outside the church? Aren't you supposed to judge those inside? 13God will judge those outside. "Remove the evil person from among you."

- a 5:5 Greek: "for the destruction of the flesh." It may mean his body.
