1Brothers and sisters, when I came to you, I did not come with fancy speech or great wisdom. I came to tell you the truth about God. 2For while I was with you, I decided to know nothing except Jesus Christ and him crucified. 3I came to you weak and afraid, and I was shaking a lot. 4My message and my preaching did not use wise words to win you over. Instead, they showed the power of the Spirit. 5This was so that your faith would not rest on human wisdom. It would rest on God's power. 6But we do speak a message of wisdom to those who are mature. It is not the wisdom of this age. It is not the wisdom of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing. 7No, we speak of God's wisdom. It is a mystery that was hidden. Before time began, God planned it for our glory. 8None of the rulers of this age understood it. If they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. 9But as it is written, "No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no heart has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him." 10But God has shown it to us by the Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. 11Who knows a person's thoughts except that person's own spirit inside him? In the same way, no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. 12We have not received the spirit of the world. We have received the Spirit who comes from God. Now we can understand what God has freely given us. 13This is what we speak about. We do not use words taught by human wisdom. We use words taught by the Spirit. We explain spiritual truths with spiritual words. 14A person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God. They seem foolish to him. He cannot understand them, because they can only be understood through the Spirit. 15The person with the Spirit can judge all things. But no one else can judge him. 16"Who has known the mind of the Lord well enough to teach him?" But we have the mind of Christ.
