These were the gatekeepers from the camp of the Levites. 19Shallum was the son of Kore, the son of Ebiasaph, the son of Korah. Shallum and his relatives from Korah's family were given the job of guarding the doorways of the Tent. Their fathers had guarded the entrance to the LORD's dwelling place in the same way. 20Long before, Phinehas son of Eleazar had been in charge of the gatekeepers. And the LORD was with him. 21Zechariah son of Meshelemiah was the gatekeeper at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting. 22In all, 212 men were chosen to be gatekeepers at the doorways. They were listed by family in their villages. David and Samuel the seer had put them in these trusted jobs. 23So they and their sons were given the job of guarding the gates of the LORD's house. That house was called the Tent. 24The gatekeepers stood guard on all four sides: east, west, north, and south. 25Their relatives came in from their villages at set times. They came to serve with them for seven days at a time. 26But the four chief gatekeepers were Levites. They were trusted to take care of the rooms and the treasure rooms in the house of God. 27They would stay all night at their posts around the house of God. They did this because it was their job to guard it and to open it every morning. 28Some of them were in charge of the things used in worship. They counted them each time they were brought in or taken out. 29Others were put in charge of the furniture and the other things in the holy place. They also took care of the fine flour, wine, oil, frankincense, and spices. 30Some of the priests' sons mixed the spices. 31A Levite named Mattithiah was trusted with baking the bread.
