¹Levi's sons were Gershon, Kohath, and Merari. ²Kohath's sons were Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel. ³Amram's children were Aaron, Moses, and Miriam. Aaron's sons were Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar. ⁴Eleazar was the father of Phinehas. Phinehas was the father of Abishua. ⁵Abishua was the father of Bukki. Bukki was the father of Uzzi. ⁶Uzzi was the father of Zerahiah. Zerahiah was the father of Meraioth. ⁷Meraioth was the father of Amariah. Amariah was the father of Ahitub. ⁸Ahitub was the father of Zadok. Zadok was the father of Ahimaaz. ⁹Ahimaaz was the father of Azariah. Azariah was the father of Johanan. ¹⁰Johanan was the father of Azariah. This Azariah served as priest in the temple that Solomon built in Jerusalem. ¹¹Azariah was the father of Amariah. Amariah was the father of Ahitub. ¹²Ahitub was the father of Zadok. Zadok was the father of Shallum. ¹³Shallum was the father of Hilkiah. Hilkiah was the father of Azariah. ¹⁴Azariah was the father of Seraiah. Seraiah was the father of Jehozadak. ¹⁵Jehozadak was taken away as a captive. This happened when the LORD sent Judah and Jerusalem into exile. He used Nebuchadnezzar to do it. ¹⁶Levi's sons were Gershom, Kohath, and Merari. ¹⁷These are the names of Gershom's sons: Libni and Shimei. ¹⁸Kohath's sons were Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel. ¹⁹Merari's sons were Mahli and Mushi. These are the clans of the Levites, listed by their fathers. ²⁰Gershom's family line went to Libni his son, then Jahath, then Zimmah, ²¹then Joah, then Iddo, then Zerah, and then Jeatherai. Each one was the son of the one before. ²²Kohath's family line went to Amminadab his son, then Korah, then Assir, ²³then Elkanah, then Ebiasaph, then Assir, ²⁴then Tahath, then Uriel, then Uzziah, and then Shaul. Each one was the son of the one before. ²⁵Elkanah's family line went to Amasai and Ahimoth, ²⁶then Elkanah his son, then Zophai, then Nahath, ²⁷then Eliab, then Jeroham, and then Elkanah. Each one was the son of the one before. ²⁸Samuel's sons were Joel, his firstborn, and Abijah, his second son. ²⁹Merari's family line went to Mahli, then Libni his son, then Shimei, then Uzzah, ³⁰then Shimea, then Haggiah, and then Asaiah. Each one was the son of the one before. ³¹These are the men David put in charge of the music in the house of the LORD. He did this after the ark came to rest there. ³²They served by singing in front of the tabernacle, the Tent of Meeting. They did this until Solomon built the house of the LORD in Jerusalem. They did their work by the rules they were given. ³³These are the men who served, along with their sons. From the Kohathites there was Heman the singer. He was the son of Joel, the son of Samuel, ³⁴the son of Elkanah, the son of Jeroham, the son of Eliel, the son of Toah, ³⁵the son of Zuph, the son of Elkanah, the son of Mahath, the son of Amasai, ³⁶the son of Elkanah, the son of Joel, the son of Azariah, the son of Zephaniah, ³⁷the son of Tahath, the son of Assir, the son of Ebiasaph, the son of Korah, ³⁸the son of Izhar, the son of Kohath, the son of Levi, the son of Israel. ³⁹Heman's relative Asaph served at his right side. Asaph was the son of Berechiah, the son of Shimea, ⁴⁰the son of Michael, the son of Baaseiah, the son of Malchijah, ⁴¹the son of Ethni, the son of Zerah, the son of Adaiah, ⁴²the son of Ethan, the son of Zimmah, the son of Shimei, ⁴³the son of Jahath, the son of Gershom, the son of Levi. ⁴⁴On Heman's left side were their relatives, the sons of Merari. There was Ethan son of Kishi, the son of Abdi, the son of Malluch, ⁴⁵the son of Hashabiah, the son of Amaziah, the son of Hilkiah, ⁴⁶the son of Amzi, the son of Bani, the son of Shemer, ⁴⁷the son of Mahli, the son of Mushi, the son of Merari, the son of Levi. ⁴⁸The other Levites were given all the other work of the tabernacle, the house of God. ⁴⁹But Aaron and his sons did all the work of the Most Holy Place. They presented the offerings on the altar of burnt offering and on the altar of incense. They did this to make atonement for Israel. They did everything that Moses the servant of God had commanded. ⁵⁰These came from Aaron. Aaron's son was Eleazar. Eleazar's son was Phinehas. Phinehas's son was Abishua. ⁵¹Abishua's son was Bukki. Bukki's son was Uzzi. Uzzi's son was Zerahiah. ⁵²Zerahiah's son was Meraioth. Meraioth's son was Amariah. Amariah's son was Ahitub. ⁵³Ahitub's son was Zadok. Zadok's son was Ahimaaz. ⁵⁴These were the places given to Aaron's family from the clan of Kohath to live in. They were given these places because the first lot fell to them. ⁵⁵They were given Hebron in the land of Judah. They also got the grasslands around it. ⁵⁶But the fields and villages around the city were given to Caleb son of Jephunneh. ⁵⁷So Aaron's family was given Hebron, a city of refuge. They were also given Libnah, Jattir, Eshtemoa, ⁵⁸Hilen, Debir, ⁵⁹Ashan, Juttah, and Beth-shemesh. They got the grasslands around each town too. ⁶⁰From the tribe of Benjamin they were given Gibeon, Geba, Alemeth, and Anathoth, with their grasslands. So their families had thirteen cities in all. ⁶¹The rest of the Kohathites were given ten cities from the half-tribe of Manasseh. ⁶²The Gershomites were given thirteen cities, clan by clan. These came from the tribes of Issachar, Asher, and Naphtali, and from Manasseh in Bashan. ⁶³The Merarites were given twelve cities, clan by clan. These came from the tribes of Reuben, Gad, and Zebulun. ⁶⁴So the Israelites gave these cities and their grasslands to the Levites. ⁶⁵They cast lots to give out the cities named above. These cities came from the tribes of Judah, Simeon, and Benjamin. ⁶⁶Some of the Kohathite clans were given cities from the tribe of Ephraim as their land. ⁶⁷They were given Shechem, a city of refuge in the hill country of Ephraim, with its grasslands. They were also given Gezer, ⁶⁸Jokmeam, Beth-horon, ⁶⁹Aijalon, and Gath-rimmon. They got the grasslands around each town too. ⁷⁰The rest of the Kohathite clans were given Aner and Bileam from the half-tribe of Manasseh. They got the grasslands around them too. ⁷¹The Gershomites got these towns. From the clan of the half-tribe of Manasseh, they were given Golan in Bashan and Ashtaroth. They got the grasslands around them too. ⁷²From the tribe of Issachar they were given Kedesh, Daberath, ⁷³Ramoth, and Anem. They got the grasslands around them too. ⁷⁴From the tribe of Asher they were given Mashal, Abdon, ⁷⁵Hukok, and Rehob. They got the grasslands around them too. ⁷⁶From the tribe of Naphtali they were given Kedesh in Galilee, Hammon, and Kiriathaim. They got the grasslands around them too. ⁷⁷The Merarites were the rest of the Levites. They got these towns. From the tribe of Zebulun they were given Rimmono and Tabor. They got the grasslands around them too. ⁷⁸From the tribe of Reuben they were given Bezer in the wilderness and Jahzah. These were east of the Jordan River, across from Jericho. ⁷⁹They were also given Kedemoth and Mephaath. They got the grasslands around them too. ⁸⁰From the tribe of Gad they were given Ramoth in Gilead, Mahanaim, ⁸¹Heshbon, and Jazer. They got the grasslands around them too.
