¹These were the sons of Israel: Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Zebulun, ²Dan, Joseph, Benjamin, Naphtali, Gad, and Asher. ³Judah's sons were Er, Onan, and Shelah. Their mother was Bath-shua, a Canaanite woman. Er was Judah's firstborn son. He was wicked in the LORD's eyes. So the LORD put him to death. ⁴Tamar was Judah's daughter-in-law. She had two sons by Judah, Perez and Zerah. So Judah had five sons in all. ⁵Perez's sons were Hezron and Hamul. ⁶Zerah's sons were Zimri, Ethan, Heman, Calcol, and Dara. There were five in all. ⁷Carmi's son was Achar. He brought trouble on Israel. He took things that were set apart for God to destroy.a ⁸Ethan's son was Azariah. ⁹Hezron's sons were Jerahmeel, Ram, and Caleb. ¹⁰Ram was the father of Amminadab. Amminadab was the father of Nahshon. Nahshon was a leader of the people of Judah. ¹¹Nahshon was the father of Salmon. Salmon was the father of Boaz. ¹²Boaz was the father of Obed. Obed was the father of Jesse. ¹³Jesse's firstborn son was Eliab. Abinadab was born second. Shimea was third, ¹⁴Nethanel was fourth, Raddai was fifth, ¹⁵Ozem was sixth, and David was seventh. ¹⁶Their sisters were Zeruiah and Abigail. Zeruiah had three sons. They were Abishai, Joab, and Asahel. ¹⁷Abigail was the mother of Amasa. Amasa's father was Jether the Ishmaelite. ¹⁸Caleb son of Hezron had children by his wife Azubah and by Jerioth. Azubah's sons were Jesher, Shobab, and Ardon. ¹⁹When Azubah died, Caleb married Ephrath. She had a son by him named Hur. ²⁰Hur was the father of Uri. Uri was the father of Bezalel. ²¹Later Hezron slept with the daughter of Machir. Machir was the father of Gilead. Hezron married her when he was sixty years old. She had a son by him named Segub. ²²Segub was the father of Jair. Jair had twenty-three cities in the land of Gilead. ²³But Geshur and Aram captured Havvoth-jair. They also took Kenath and the sixty villages around it. All these people came from Machir, the father of Gilead. ²⁴Hezron died in Caleb-ephrathah. After that, his wife Abijah had a son by him named Ashhur. Ashhur was the father of Tekoa. ²⁵Jerahmeel was Hezron's firstborn son. Jerahmeel's sons were Ram, his firstborn, then Bunah, Oren, Ozem, and Ahijah. ²⁶Jerahmeel had another wife named Atarah. She was the mother of Onam. ²⁷Ram was Jerahmeel's firstborn son. Ram's sons were Maaz, Jamin, and Eker. ²⁸Onam's sons were Shammai and Jada. Shammai's sons were Nadab and Abishur. ²⁹Abishur's wife was named Abihail. She had two sons by him, Ahban and Molid. ³⁰Nadab's sons were Seled and Appaim. Seled died without having children. ³¹Appaim's son was Ishi. Ishi's son was Sheshan. Sheshan's son was Ahlai. ³²Jada was Shammai's brother. Jada's sons were Jether and Jonathan. Jether died without having children. ³³Jonathan's sons were Peleth and Zaza. These were the people who came from Jerahmeel. ³⁴Sheshan had no sons. He had only daughters. He also had a servant from Egypt named Jarha. ³⁵Sheshan let his servant Jarha marry one of his daughters. She had a son by Jarha named Attai. ³⁶Attai was the father of Nathan. Nathan was the father of Zabad. ³⁷Zabad was the father of Ephlal. Ephlal was the father of Obed. ³⁸Obed was the father of Jehu. Jehu was the father of Azariah. ³⁹Azariah was the father of Helez. Helez was the father of Elasah. ⁴⁰Elasah was the father of Sismai. Sismai was the father of Shallum. ⁴¹Shallum was the father of Jekamiah. Jekamiah was the father of Elishama. ⁴²Caleb was Jerahmeel's brother. Caleb's firstborn son was Mesha, the father of Ziph. His second son was Mareshah, the father of Hebron. ⁴³Hebron's sons were Korah, Tappuah, Rekem, and Shema. ⁴⁴Shema was the father of Raham, and Raham was the father of Jorkeam. Rekem was the father of Shammai. ⁴⁵Shammai's son was Maon. Maon was the father of Beth-zur. ⁴⁶Ephah was Caleb's concubine. She was the mother of Haran, Moza, and Gazez. Haran was the father of Gazez. ⁴⁷Jahdai's sons were Regem, Jotham, Geshan, Pelet, Ephah, and Shaaph. ⁴⁸Maacah was another of Caleb's concubines. She was the mother of Sheber and Tirhanah. ⁴⁹She was also the mother of Shaaph, the father of Madmannah. And she was the mother of Sheva, the father of Machbenah and Gibea. Caleb's daughter was Acsah. ⁵⁰These were the people who came from Caleb. Hur was the firstborn son of Ephrathah. Hur's sons were Shobal the father of Kiriath-jearim, ⁵¹Salma the father of Bethlehem, and Hareph the father of Beth-gader. ⁵²Shobal was the father of Kiriath-jearim. These came from him: Haroeh and half of the Manahathites, ⁵³and the clans of Kiriath-jearim. These clans were the Ithrites, Puthites, Shumathites, and Mishraites. The Zorathites and the Eshtaolites came from them. ⁵⁴These came from Salma: Bethlehem, the Netophathites, Atroth-beth-joab, half of the Manahathites, the Zorites, ⁵⁵and the clans of scribes who lived at Jabez. They were the Tirathites, Shimeathites, and Sucathites. These are the Kenites who came from Hammath. He was the father of the family of Rechab.
