1Some time later, David beat the Philistines. He made them serve him. He took Gath and its towns from them. 2David also beat the Moabites. They had to serve David. They brought him tribute. 3David also beat King Hadadezer of Zobah. He beat him as far as Hamath. Hadadezer had gone out to set up his rule by the Euphrates River. 4David captured 1,000 of his chariots, 7,000 chariot drivers, and 20,000 foot soldiers. He crippled all the chariot horses except 100. He kept those for chariots. 5Then the Arameans of Damascus came to help King Hadadezer of Zobah. But David killed 22,000 of their men. 6Then he put troops in Aram of Damascus. The Arameans had to serve David. They brought him tribute. So the LORD gave David victory everywhere he went. 7Hadadezer's officers had gold shields. David took them and brought them to Jerusalem. 8Tibhath and Cun were cities of Hadadezer. David took a lot of bronze from them. Later Solomon used it to make the bronze Sea, the pillars, and many bronze things. 9Tou was king of Hamath. He heard that David had beaten the whole army of Hadadezer king of Zobah. 10So he sent his son Hadoram to greet King David and to bless him for fighting and defeating Hadadezer. Hadadezer had been at war with Tou. Hadoram brought all kinds of objects made of gold, silver, and bronze. 11King David set these apart for the LORD. He did the same with the silver and gold he had taken from all these nations. He had taken it from Edom and Moab, and from the Ammonites, Philistines, and Amalekites. 12Abishai son of Zeruiah killed 18,000 men of Edom in the Valley of Salt. 13He put troops in Edom. All the people of Edom had to serve David. So the LORD gave David victory everywhere he went. 14So David ruled over all Israel. He did what was fair and right for all his people. 15Joab son of Zeruiah was over the army. Jehoshaphat son of Ahilud kept the records. 16Zadok son of Ahitub and Ahimelech son of Abiathar were priests. Shavsha was the scribe. 17Benaiah son of Jehoiada was over the Cherethites and Pelethites. And David's sons were the top officials at the king's side.
