1They brought in the ark of God. They set it inside the tent David had set up for it. Then they offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before God. 2David finished offering the burnt offerings and peace offerings. Then he blessed the people in the name of the LORD. 3Then he gave every man and woman in Israel a loaf of bread, a date cake, and a raisin cake. 4David chose some of the Levites to serve in front of the ark of the LORD. They were to celebrate, give thanks, and praise the LORD, the God of Israel. 5Asaph was the chief, and Zechariah was second. Then came Jeiel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Mattithiah, Eliab, Benaiah, Obed-edom, and Jeiel. They were to play the harps and lyres. Asaph was to play the cymbals. 6And Benaiah and Jahaziel the priests were to blow the trumpets. They did this at set times in front of the ark of the covenant of God. 7That day David first gave Asaph and his helpers this song of thanks to the LORD: 8"Give thanks to the LORD. Call on his name.
Tell the nations what he has done.
9Sing to him. Sing praises to him.
Tell about all his wonders.
10Be proud of his holy name.
Let the hearts of those who seek the LORD be glad.
11Look to the LORD and his strength.
Seek his face always.
12Remember the wonders he has done.
Remember his amazing works and the judgments he spoke,
13you children of his servant Israel,
you sons of Jacob, his chosen ones.
14He is the LORD our God.
His judgments reach all over the earth.
15Remember his covenant forever.
Remember the promise he gave for a thousand generations.
16It is the covenant he made with Abraham.
It is the oath he swore to Isaac.
17He made it firm for Jacob as a law.
He made it for Israel as a covenant that lasts forever.
18He said, 'I will give you the land of Canaan.
It will be your share to own.'
19At that time they were few in number,
very few, and strangers in the land.
20They wandered from nation to nation,
from one kingdom to another.
21He let no one treat them badly.
He scolded kings for their sake.
22He said, 'Do not touch my anointed ones!
Do not harm my prophets!'
23Sing to the LORD, all the earth.
Tell of his saving power day after day.
24Tell the nations about his glory.
Tell all peoples about his wonders.
25For the LORD is great. He is worthy of great praise.
He should be feared above all gods.
26For all the gods of the nations are idols.
But the LORD made the heavens.
27Splendor and majesty are before him.
Strength and joy fill the place where he lives.
28Give to the LORD, you families of the nations.
Give to the LORD glory and strength.
29Give to the LORD the glory his name deserves.
Bring an offering and come before him.
Worship the LORD in the beauty of his holiness.
30Tremble before him, all the earth.
The world stands firm. It cannot be moved.
31Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth be happy.
Let them say among the nations, 'The LORD rules!'
32Let the sea roar, and everything in it.
Let the fields be full of joy, and everything in them.
33Then the trees of the forest will sing for joy before the LORD.
For he is coming to judge the earth.
34Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good.
His faithful love lasts forever.
35Then cry out, 'Save us, God our Savior!
Gather us and rescue us from the nations.
Then we will give thanks to your holy name.
Then we will be proud to praise you.'
36Praise the LORD, the God of Israel,
from forever ago to forever more."
Then all the people said, "Amen!" and "Praise the LORD!"
37So David left Asaph and his helpers there in front of the ark of the covenant of the LORD. They were to serve there every day, doing what each day required. 38Obed-edom and his 68 relatives served with them. Obed-edom son of Jeduthun and Hosah were to be gatekeepers. 39David left Zadok the priest and the priests with him in front of the tabernacle of the LORD. It was at the high place in Gibeon. 40They were to offer burnt offerings to the LORD on the altar of burnt offering. They did this regularly, morning and evening. They followed everything written in the Law of the LORD, which he had commanded Israel to keep. 41With them were Heman and Jeduthun. The rest of those chosen by name were also with them. Their job was to give thanks to the LORD, saying, "His faithful love lasts forever." 42Heman and Jeduthun had trumpets and cymbals for the music. They also had instruments for the songs of God. The sons of Jeduthun were placed at the gate. 43Then all the people went home. And David went home to bless his family.
